Katrina has been in practice for over 25 years, and is a Partner in our Intellectual Property, Information Technology and Regulatory team. Her practice includes licensing and commercialisation of IP, trade mark prosecutions and oppositions, IP ownership and structuring issues, research and development collaborations, alliances and joint venture arrangements, the sale and purchase of IP assets and companies, IP audits and due diligence, establishment of franchise systems, manufacturing, supply and distribution agreements, general contracts law and commercial and corporate law.

Katrina also advises in relation to protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights, privacy and franchise compliance, therapeutic goods, medicinal cannabis and AI regulation, clinical trials, regulatory disputes, the Australian Consumer Law, advertising law and domain name disputes.

Katrina has substantial experience advising on the intellectual property aspects of major projects and corporate transactions including sales and acquisitions, IPOs and other capital raising activities.

Katrina works in a wide range of private and public industry sectors including life sciences, medical devices, health, information technology, energy and resources, government and university.  Her corporate clients range from start ups and spin out companies to publicly listed and international companies.

Advising the Intelligas Group in relation to a collaboration with QGC for the development of Intelligas’ proprietary technology, and acting for Intelligas Group in relation to the negotiation of supply agreements with major resources players including QGC and Santos.

Licella Holdings Limited

Acting for Licella Holdings Limited in relation to its commercialisation of its patented Cat-HTR technology for conversion of waste feedstocks into biofuels including licensing of international and Australian joint venture entities, advising in relation to participation in a CRC-P Partners Agreement and assisting with negotiation and documentation of a collaboration agreement with Shell to develop a global, low-carbon, biomass to biofuels commercial solution.

LivaNova

Advising the international medical device manufacturer and distributor LivaNova in relation to regulatory issues and all of its commercial law needs in Australia.

Alloy Steel

Advising the Perth based owners of Alloy Steel in relation to the intellectual property aspects on the sale of their company to US multinational Lincoln Electric for approximately A$209 million. Lincoln Electric is a world leader in the engineering, design and manufacturing of advanced arc welding solutions, automated jointing, assembly and cutting systems, operating in 20 countries and listed on the NASDAQ with a market cap of US$13 billion.

Queensland Department of Environment and Science

Advising the Queensland Department of Environment and Science in relation to variation of a Biodiscovery Benefit Sharing Agreement made under the Biodiscovery Act 2004 (Qld) to reflect amendments to the Act relating to biodiscovery plans, subsequent use agreements and the traditional knowledge obligation, and also in relation to rights to intellectual property created through biodiscovery and the implications under the Act where an entity uses digital sequencing information.

QUT

Acting for Queensland University of Technology in relation to rationalisation of its complex intellectual property ownership and commercialisation agreements with respect to gene edited bananas including drafting and negotiation of a Master Commercialisation Agreement with Australian Banana Research Pty Ltd, and subsequently acting in relation to drafting and negotiation of new research agreements (Australian and international)
