Joanne is a special counsel in our Canberra employment team and one of our most senior and experienced team members, with approximately 20 years' experience. Joanne assists Commonwealth Government clients on a wide range of employment, industrial and workplace relations and work health and safety issues.

Joanne is experienced in advising on employee integrity issues, including Code of Conduct investigations and undertaking investigations under the Public Interest Disclosure Act. Joanne also undertakes workplace investigations and advises in relation to the National Anti-Corruption Commission.

Joanne has extensive experience in advising Commonwealth Departments and Agencies on employment related issues including unfair dismissal and general protections matters in the Fair Work Commission, discrimination, employee misconduct and injury and employee disputes. Joanne's extensive inhouse Commonwealth Government experience which assists in ensuring advice is provided to government clients in the context of a thorough understanding of government processes and requirements.

Joanne is also an experienced trainer, who has provided a broad range of training to clients in relation to workplace and employment issues, including to their Executive and to Boards.

Advice to Commonwealth Agencies on the application of public sector employment legislation including the proper interpretation of the Public Service Act and subordinate legislation.

Work Health and Safety

Joanne regularly provides work health and safety advice and training across Commonwealth and non-APS entities and assists agencies in responding to Comcare investigations.

Employee disputes

Joanne provides regular advice to clients on disputes and appears in the Fair Work Commission and the Australian Human Rights Commission on a wide range of disputes, ranging from unfair dismissals, general protections and discrimination matters, to disputes on the interpretation of enterprise agreements.

Employee misconduct

Joanne regularly advises clients on Code of Conduct investigations and breach and sanction decisions.

Investigations

Joanne has conducted various investigations under the Public Interest Disclosure Act and Code of Conduct investigations under the Public Service Act.

Employee illness and injury

Joanne has extensive experience in assisting Commonwealth Departments and Agencies to manage employees with long term illness or injury.
