David has extensive experience advising clients on issues arising on complex, high value, construction, infrastructure, transport, and energy projects around the world.  Having practiced in South East Asia, the Middle East and Europe with some of the world's leading law firms, David has advised governments, Fortune 500 companies, state owned entities and international contractors on projects of major regional and global significance.

David has experience in multiple forms of dispute resolution including litigation, mediation, expert determination, adjudication (in Australia, England and Singapore), dispute boards, and in arbitration using various arbitral rules including ICC, SIAC, TAI, UNCITRAL, DIAC, and LCIA, amongst others.  

In addition to his experience in private practice, David has also undertaken secondments to major contractors advising on all aspects of the tender and delivery phases of major projects.

Experience

ICC arbitration

Advising a Middle East government on US$1.1 billion dispute with consortium of international contractors arising from the construction of two international airports. The dispute was resolved through ICC arbitration in London.

Multinational consortium

Advising a multinational construction consortium formed by contractors based in Korea, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia and Spain against a state owned entity on disputes arising from tunnel boring works carried out as part of the construction of a major metro project in the Middle East.

Dispute board proceedings

Advising Fortune 500 renewable energy EPC contractor on multiple dispute board proceedings against a Central Asian government on disputes arising from the refurbishment of a hydroelectric dam of regional significance. The disputes involved delays to the project caused by COVID-19, Force Majeure Events, and public unrest.

Adjudication

Advising major Australian piling contractor on disputes arising from the construction of a large infrastructure project in New South Wales (NSW). Disputes were referred to adjudication under the NSW Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act 1999.
