On 19 July 2021, her Honour Justice Fullerton found former NSW Labor government ministers Ian Macdonald and Eddie Obeid, and Mr Obeid’s son Moses, guilty of conspiracy to commit misconduct in public office.
The men had been charged over the granting of a mining exploration licence over the Obeid family’s farm at Mount Penny that delivered a $30 million windfall for the family.

The factual origins of this prosecution lay in a claim made by the City of Sydney against Moses Obeid and his company, Streetscape Projects (Aust) Pty Ltd, in relation to a breach of a licence for use of the intellectual property in the City of Sydney’s “Smartpole” multi-function poles. Sylvia Fernandez and Jodi Walkom, partners of Thomson Geer, acted for the City of Sydney in that claim.
