Commercial law firm Thomson Playford has been named the 2008 Adelaide Law Firm of the Year. The award was accepted on 22 May by Thomson Playford Chairman of Partners, Loretta Reynolds, at the Mettle ALB Australasian Law Awards, Asia Pacific’s premium law awards event.
Ms Reynolds said Thomson Playford was honoured to be recognised by its peers and the judging panel as the leading law firm in Adelaide.
“This award reflects our firm’s strong reputation in the Adelaide market, and its commitment to continuing to grow nationally.”
“Our Adelaide office remains a key plank to our national growth plans. It is because of our success in Adelaide and the expertise and commitment of our staff that our firm has been able to expand interstate.”
2007 was another solid year of growth for Thomson Playford, which also underwent significant positive change to support the firm’s national expansion. Most recently, the firm established an environmental, climate change, planning and energy practice.
This practice is headed by highly regarded environment, climate change, planning and energy lawyer Fraser Bell, who joined Thomson Playford as Partner at the end of 2007.
The firm is preparing for further expansion, with Thomson Playford’s Adelaide office moving to a new state-of-the-art multi-level office complex adjacent to the Supreme Court in Gouger Street at the end of this year.
Ms Reynolds said “the new premises would allow capacity for an additional 20% growth and was a sign of the firm’s confidence in the South Australian market”.
While the firm continues to grow within its core practice areas of Corporate, Dispute Resolution & Litigation, Property & Development and Financial Services, Thomson Playford is also evolving to meet client demand now and into the future. The firm has more than 250 staff nationally, with 140 of those based in Adelaide.
