On 26 June, Thomson Geer was delighted to host a ceremonial event at which our Partner, Sylvia Fernandez, was awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of the Civil Merit by the King of Spain for services to Spain in promoting trade relations between Spain and Australia.

Our Chief Executive Partner, Adrian Tembel, had the honour of welcoming and introducing the Spanish Ambassador to Australia His Excellency Mr Manuel Cacho, who then formally presented the medal to Sylvia.

Sylvia made a significant contribution to facilitating and fostering the development of business relationships within the Spanish-Australian business community in her the role of National President of La Camera, the Official Spanish-Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. She held this role for four years from 2014 – 2018 and now continues her work as National Vice-President of La Camara, and has served on its Board since 2011.

Sylvia Fernandez said “I’m delighted that I have been able to serve La Camara and its members, both Spanish and Australian. I am very pleased that I have been able to play a part in forming a bridge between the two business communities.”

“On a personal level, I am very grateful to have been able to reconnect with my Spanish heritage. I am proud of my parents’ fearless journey half way round the world. They remained intensely proud of their country while making a home in Australia and I am very pleased to have been able to serve the interests of Spain over the last eight years.”

Thomson Geer is a member and keen supporter of La Camara, and we co-host numerous events each year.
