After careful consideration, AustralianSuper will take steps to exclude companies that manufacture tobacco products from its portfolio.

It was decided that investing in tobacco is inconsistent with their purpose of helping members achieve their best possible retirement outcomes.

Thomson Geer advised AustralianSuper in relation to this divestment, in a team led by partner, Scott Charaneka.

The divestment process will be carefully managed to minimise any impact on members’ outcomes, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.
