Thomson Geer is advising Malaysian Developer, UEM Sunrise Berhad, in relation to its Aurora Melbourne Central mixed-use complex in LaTrobe Street, Melbourne CBD.
Thomson Geer Partner, Eu Ming Lim is lead adviser, assisted by Partner, Sarah Rizk, Special Counsel, Mark Kemp and Paralegal, Amanda Szwarcbard.
The Aurora Melbourne Central started with its acquisition in 2014 and at 92 floors, is now Melbourne’s tallest building. Once completed, it will comprise of a mix of residences, serviced apartments, retail and office space, and it will have a direct underground link to the Melbourne Central Train Station.
We have provided legal advice to UEM Sunrise Berhad since the 2014 acquisition and will continue to do so until the project’s physical completion and settlements of all the apartments and retail/office space. This is the largest development the company has undertaken in Australia, and was also its first.
The project facilitated around 3000 jobs during its construction phase. Apartments in the new landmark building are highly sought after and are currently 100% sold out – with 95% of all apartments sold to local and international buyers within the first two weeks of launch.
The rooftop ‘topping out’ ceremony was held on April 4th, as the tower reached its maximum height.
Eu Ming Lim said about the project “To be able to work with the company and all other parties to bring this project to fruition is an achievement that the Melbourne development community can be proud of.”
“It is a project which requires every party to play its part and focus on the ultimate outcome, and Thomson Geer is proud to play its part in the delivery of this landmark project for Melbourne”.
