The NSW Government has transferred 14,000 social housing homes to Community Housing Providers, including our client Link Housing, boosting the growing sector of professional management by not-for-profit organisations. Our client, Link Housing, has acquired leases of and management rights for more than 1900 of those properties.

The Thomson Geer team was led by partners Melinda Graham and Lucinda Smith, and they were assisted by Special Counsel Samantha Culshaw and Lawyer Rachael Bass.

Under the Social Housing Management Transfer program, Link Housing will acquire leases of and management rights for more than 1900 affordable housing properties in Ryde, Hornsby and Ku-Ring-Gai local government areas. We assisted with the bid documents and negotiations with the Department of Family and Community Services (FACS) on the Community Housing Assistance Agreements.

The Minister for Social Housing, Pru Goward, said “By transferring management to community housing providers we are harnessing an untapped resource that can vastly improve the experience of people living in social housing managed by [providers].”.

Our partner, Melinda Graham, said “We are proud to continue to work alongside Link Housing in its successful bid for this landmark social housing Project, which upon commencement in 2018 will double the number dwellings being made available by Link Housing to those most in need in NSW. Our cross disciplinary team of real estate and corporate lawyers are looking forward to the implementation of the transfer in readiness for the “go live” date in 2018.”
