In January 2011, the new Australian Consumer Law imposed Mandatory Reporting Oobligations on suppliers of "consumer goods" and "product related services", to report incidents where a death or serious injury or illness is caused, or may have been caused, by the consumer good or product related service.
Given the penalties that apply (and the short timeframe in which to report), franchisors should review their franchise agreement and franchise system to assess whether they comply with their obligations under this new law.

ENVIRONMENT & PLANNING Alert: Changes to the Assessment of Certain Major Development Projects in NSW

The NSW Government has announced that it will introduce a Bill to repeal Part 3A of the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979 (EP&A Act). The Bill will include a new regime for the assessment and determination of projects of ‘genuine’ State significance.
