Thomsons advising on $1.2 billion Fitzroy Coal Terminal Project

19 Dec 2011

Thomsons Lawyers are advising the Mitchell Group, an Australian company operating at a global level, on the $1.2 billion Fitzroy Coal Terminal Project, in relation to environmental approvals, project development and financing, negotiations and agreements with customers (including the Gladstone Port Corporation and landholders) and construction and operational aspects.

Recently declared a significant project under the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971, the development of the Fitzroy Coal terminal will involve utilising a combination of existing and new rail networks, an overland conveyor system, modern covered barges and purpose built transhippers to provide an innovative solution and vital coal export capacity to mine operators in Central Queensland.

Upon completion the new coal chain supply infrastructure will have the capacity to export up to 22 million tonnes of coal per annum and will provide significant benefits to the Central Queensland mining community and to the Queensland economy.
