Thomsons welcomes banking and finance partner, Michael Barrett to the firm. Michael joins Thomsons’ Adelaide office from Adelaide firm Finlaysons, where he headed their banking and finance practice area.

Michael practises in the areas of banking, finance and securities enforcement, restructuring, and workouts, and has extensive experience in major dispute resolution, particularly in the area of auditor liability. His principal focus is high-end insolvency work.

Chief Executive Partner, Adrian Tembel said Michael’s appointment further strengthened the firm’s banking and finance practice.

“Michael is a hard-working, resilient and energetic lawyer. We like his practice exposure – it will be active over the medium term,” he said.

With a strong reputation as the go-to person on difficult assignments, Michael is recognised as one of The Best Lawyers in Australia (2012) in the area of Insolvency and Asset Restructuring.

His clients include Australia’s four major banks, financial institutions and insolvency practitioners acting as investigating accountant, receiver and manager, administrator, provisional liquidator and liquidator.

Michael said joining a growing independent Australian law firm with national reach was a strategic decision.

“I regularly act for clients in Melbourne and Adelaide and I think moving to a national firm will enable me to offer my clients some great advantages,” he said.
