For the second year running, Thomson Playford Cutlers has been named as a finalist for the ALB Australasian “Adelaide Law Firm of the Year” Award, after having won the award in 2008.

The Adelaide Law Firm of the Year award seeks to recognise the achievements of a firm based in Adelaide that has built an enviable reputation in the local market for the provision of legal services. The nomination process for the awards involves in-depth research and interviews with clients, industry experts and other practitioners.

Chief Executive Partner, Adrian Tembel, said Thomson Playford Cutlers was honoured to be recognised for the second consecutive year by its peers as one of the leading law firms in Adelaide.

“This nomination reflects our firm’s focus on building and sustaining strong relationships with our clients in the Adelaide market, and our commitment to continuing to grow nationally.”

“It is because of our success in Adelaide and the expertise and commitment of our staff that our firm has been able to expand into both the New South Wales, and more recently, Victorian markets.”

The past 12 months has been a particularly exciting time for the firm, merging with Sydney’s Cutler Hughes & Harris in September 2008 and on 1 March this year, announcing its merger with the Melbourne office of Dibbs Abbott Stillman.

These two mergers have increased the number of staff nationally to 350, including 46 partners and 150 lawyers, with 110 of these people based in Adelaide.

In addition to its national expansion, the firm’s Adelaide office also moved to a new, state-of-the-art multi-level office complex adjacent to the Supreme Court in Gouger Street at the end of 2008.

Mr Tembel said “the new premises was a sign of the firm’s confidence in the ability of the South Australian market to bounce back from the current economic downturn”.

The continuing focus for the firm in the coming 12 months is to continue to grow within its key practice areas of Corporate, Dispute Resolution & Litigation, Property & Development, Health, IP/IT and Financial Services, and to maintain its commitment to its clients to provide reliable, cost effective and highly valued legal services.
