A BIO QLD Investment Seminar was held as part of the BIO 2019 International Convention in the US this month. Thomson Geer partnered with Life Sciences Queensland Limited and Trade and Investment Queensland to present this event, allowing 11 Queensland life sciences companies the chance to pitch to international investors. Thomson Geer was represented by Biotech & Life Sciences specialists, Partners Tony Conaghan and Roberta Bozzoli, with Tony playing the pivotal role of Master of Ceremonies.

The annual BIO convention is the world’s largest gathering of global biotech and pharmaceutical leaders, with the 2018 event drawing more than 16,000 industry leaders from 67 countries.

Some of the world’s most highly regarded biotech investors were expected to attend BIO 2019, presenting a good opportunity for Queensland start-ups and biotech researchers to attract investment.

Venture capital financing is one of the key ways for emerging biotech companies to secure funding to develop and sell their product. The US generates seven times more venture funding per capita than Australia, making it an attractive market in which to pitch.

A delegation of high-level Queensland Government representatives also attended the event.
