News

A new Car Rental Code of Practice has been introduced by the Australian Finance Industry Association (AFIA), and implemented nationally on 1 March 2018.  Thomson Geer acted for AFIA on the drafting, development and consultation of the Code, in a team led by Special Counsel, Peter Penno.  Members of AFIA which are now bound by the Code and who participated in its development with us include key industry players Avis, Budget, Hertz, Thrifty and Europcar, amongst others. AFIA members have approximately 75% of the total market share by revenue of the car rental market in Australia.

The Code was developed to provide greater transparency and enhanced consumer confidence around car rental practices on a national scale, and to ensure an industry standard is set and met on a wide range of issues.
