The Fair Work Amendment Bill 2013 to amend the Fair Work Act 2009 was passed by the Senate yesterday. Changes were made to the Amending Act in the last fortnight in order to secure sufficient support to pass through the Senate.

The Sex Discrimination Amendment (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Intersex Status) Bill 2013 was passed by the Senate yesterday. The Amendment Act expands the SDA’s current provisions so that it will also prohibit discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity and intersex status.

Late last year the Queensland Government held a parliamentary inquiry into the Queensland building industry. The inquiry report made 41 recommendations in relation to the operation and performance of the Queensland Building Services Authority (QBSA), and the Queensland Government has implemented a 10 point action plan in response to those recommendations. The primary change is that the QBSA is set to be replaced with the new Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) by the end of 2013.
