The Federal Government last week introduced a Bill to amend the Fair Work Act 2009 to allow the Fair Work Commission (FWC) to make orders to stop bullying in the workplace. The explanatory memorandum that accompanies the Bill describes the proposed new laws as 'preventative in nature and to allow for early intervention to stop and prevent workplace bullying'.

In a recent decision, the Supreme Court of Queensland has overturned 37 directions to rectify issued by the Queensland Building Services Authority (QBSA) on the basis that they were void. The decision in McNab Constructions Australia Pty Ltd v Queensland Building Services Authority also throws doubt over any direction issued by the QBSA on the basis that the appropriate amount of time was not given to the recipient to respond.
